Members - Ladies Section
Kingsthorpe has a very friendly and active ladies section and any new ladies/girls would be given a very warm welcome. The Ladies Committee always make a particular point of helping newcomers to become integrated into the Club by arranging games initially for those who would like help in this way.
At the moment the ladies membership is 87 with approximately 40/45 regularly playing. Our ladies day is on Wednesday of each week, with LGU (Ladies Golf Union) monthly medals and club Stablefords being played every two weeks. Medals are usually played on the first Wednesday in the month and Stablefords on the third.
Although there is something going on all year round, the ladies section has a very busy golfing season usually between March & October with two Open Meetings, the regular medal and Stableford competitions and many other fun competitions. An away day and a three day break is usually arranged by the Lady Captain of the year for all members of the section to enjoy.
There are also regular friendly ladies’ matches with other Clubs within the area, played mostly during the week, together with a number of mixed matches again with local clubs, usually played on a Sunday afternoon, which always end very sociably in the Clubhouse, with a very tasty meal, whether home or away.
There are a few working ladies within our Section who are unable to play on Wednesdays, and to enable them to play in the monthly medals and stable fords, an “alternative” day is allocated to them on a Sunday.
Within the Ladies Section there is a Seniors Ladies Section for the over 60s, and they too have their own special day on Mondays usually playing in the morning. They have regular matches with senior ladies of other Clubs and also a monthly competition, which in some cases may be played over 9 holes if the weather is inclement.
Bridge is also a big part of the social scene of the Ladies Section. Not only do ladies have various friendly games regularly, there are always two/three Bridge Drives organised during the year when we invite other Clubs to play. The ladies of the Club put on a superb tea, with sandwiches and home made cakes etc. which always go down very well with our visitors. The proceeds of the Bridge Drives go to the present Lady Captain’s Charity.
Various other social events are arranged to raise money for the Lady Captain’s Charity. One in particular this year was a “Garden Party” held at the Lady Vice Captain’s house with various stalls selling cakes, bric-a-brac, plants etc , a tombola and raffle was also held, and everyone attending enjoyed a particularly delicious cream tea - a lovely day was had by all.
The Ladies Section is always conscious of how important it is to encourage young ladies and girls into playing the wonderful game of golf and at the moment the Ladies Committee are currently looking at ways to do this, may be by approaching schools, colleges, or various youth groups etc. - suggestions would be welcomed. If anyone is interested in attending an introduction initially, or know of any young person that may be interested, please do get in touch with -
